Reading Route Sheets
Introduction
We define routes as individual trips inbound to or outbound from a specific school at a specific time.
We define a "bus" as a group of routes assigned to a single driver.
The software combines information from a combination of files:
- the student file
- the school file
- the geographic database
The student file contains all pertinent information about the student:
- home address
- alternate address information
- home phone
- emergency contacts
- disability
- medical information
- special equipment
- student photo
- school assignment
- grade
- stop information
- release information
- student effective date
- etc.
The school file contains pertinent information about the school:
- school address
- bus arrival schedules
- loading zone details
The geographic database is a digital file with all street information for the area. It includes:
- latitude and longitude for all intersections
- street speeds
- stop information
- school district boundaries
- driveways for school sites
- apartment complexes
- condos
- mobile home parks
- features like railroad crossings
